If "releasing military power over a cup of wine" eliminated the threat to the imperial power of the Zhao family from military generals, then Song Taizu's previous silent "abolishing the seat and withdrawing tea" was to establish his authority in front of civil servants. Both official and unofficial histories mentioned this. In February 960, Zhao Kuangyin, who was "dressed in yellow robes", summoned Prime Minister Fan Zhi and others to discuss politics. At the beginning of the summons, a seat was set up and tea was given to him, and he "sit and discussed the Tao" with him.

The Supplement to the Second Record of Jiashen Wenjian written by King Gong of the Song Dynasty records that Song Shenzong summoned Zhang Fangping, who was then the Prince's Young Master, in the Chongzheng Hall where political affairs were discussed, and "gave him a seat to sip tea."
